Waste Drying & Municipal Waste Treatment

- Waste drying equipment of Vandenbroek International
New designs for mechanical and biological treatment of solid waste are developed all over the world, due to (changing) environmental legislation. Waste treatment generally consists of several processes, such as waste separation, waste drying and stabilization.
(Municipal) waste treatment plants demand high-quality equipment in order to safeguard a reliable waste treatment process. Vandenbroek International is an experienced designer and manufacturer of high-quality drying solutions, such as waste drying.
Derive Fuel from waste, drying MSW/RDF
Some waste treatment plants sort out valuable recyclables and produce high calorific fuel, referred to as RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel). RDF is a result of sorting and/or drying MSW (Municipal Solid Waste), using mechanical heat treatment, mechanical biological treatment or waste autoclaves.
This type of secondary fuel can be used to produce energy in several ways. Depending on its heating value, RDF can be used as (substitute) fuel for different power plants, cement kilns and various industrial processes.
Why drying RDF?
When drying RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) its calorific value will increase considerably. In order to store or to transport the RDF even more efficiently, the dried RDF can be pelletized after drying. Vandenbroek International provides tailor-made (RDF) drying solutions. Our waste dryers are well capable of drying RDF efficiently.

- From Municipal Solid Waste...

- ...to RDF pellets
Advantages of using (and drying) RDF
Producing and using RDF has the following environmental advantages:
- Reduces waste disposal in landfills
- Decreases the use of fossil fuels
Other types of waste drying for which our waste drying technology (VADEB®) is suitable are:
- Organic waste
- Digestate (waste)
Export or transport digestate
Mechanical biological treatment (MBT) plants process waste through combining mechanical sorting and biological treatment. In MBTs and/or in solely biological treatment plants (biogas installations) one of the end products of (anaerobic) digestion is digestate. By means of our VADEB® drying equipment the digestate can be dehydrated. Dry digestate can be stored, transported at large distances and exported more cost-effectively.
